Therapeutical action: Tizanidal is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant. Through the stimulation of presynaptic alpha-2-receptors, it inhibits the release of excitatory amino acids that stimulate NMDA receptors.
Indications:
Painful muscle spasms associated with static and functional disorders of the spine (cervical and lumbar syndromes). After surgery (intervertebral disc herniation or hip osteoarthritis).
Spasticity due to neurological disorders (multiple sclerosis, chronic myelopathy, degenerative spinal cord disorders, stroke and cerebral palsy).
Dosage and Administration: Painful muscle spasms: 2 to 4 mg, 3 times per day. In severe cases, 2 or 4 mg can be added at night.
Spasticity due to neurological disorders: 12 and 24 mg per day, every 8 hours (it is advisable to start with 6 mg and increase progressively).
Presentation: Tizanidal 2 mg x 15 tablets.
